Wingspan is a nationally-recognized student-run news organization based in Hendersonville, NC. Its print edition is published quarterly and the web edition is updated at least once a week during the school year. Wingspan is created completely by the newspaper journalism class. The purpose of Wingspan is to convey school, community, state and national news to students, faculty, administration and the community. Wingspan content is determined by an editorial board of student editors. The 2014-2015 Wingspan is a Southern Interscholastic Press Association All-Southern, National Scholastic Press Association All-American, Columbia Scholastic Press Association Silver Crown and North Carolina Scholastic Press Association All-North Carolina and Tar Heel Award publication. Staff editorials reflect the opinion of the editorial board. Columns reflect the opinion of the writer. Wingspan Online is a rapidly-growing, independent site of its own. This site includes original content such as photo galleries, social media content, podcasts, polls, breaking stories and more that are part of an on-going effort to bring news to our school’s community. Wingspan Online was created by Austin Downing, redesigned by Ari Sen, and updated by Elise Trexler. Wingspan Online is a North Carolina Scholastic Media Association Tar Heel, Columbia Scholastic Media Association Silver Crown and National Scholastic Media Association Pacemaker Finalist publication. All stories published online will have bylines of the author at the bottom of the page, except for the Wingspan staff editorials which reflect the opinion of a majority of the editorial board.
