As the school year kicks off, the Student Government Association (SGA) at West Henderson High School is once again in full swing. They are led by a committed group of student leaders determined to enhance the school environment for all.
SGA junior president Brady Merrill, whose vision for the upcoming year remains clear and consistent: to ensure that every student at West Henderson feels safe and engaged. “My goal remains the same as last year, to ensure that every student at West Henderson feels safe,” Merrill emphasized in a recent interview. “I aim to enhance the school experience by planning exciting events for students, including dances, social gatherings, and other fun activities.”
Merrill’s dedication to fostering a sense of belonging and community goes beyond event planning. He is committed to making sure every student feels heard and valued, a sentiment that resonates deeply with the SGA’s mission. “SGA is important to Merrill because he values ensuring that everyone’s voice is heard and that a sense of happiness and community is felt throughout the school,” remarked Matthew Lupo fellow SGA leader.
West Henderson SGA president Emery Sprouse is laying out an ambitious vision for the school year ahead. She has plans to foster a more engaged and spirited student body. A key focus of her agenda includes coordinating events designed to boost student involvement and cultivate a stronger sense of school pride.
“This year’s goals are similar to last year’s,” Sprouse explained, “because we are always striving to find new ways to encourage student participation and build a better school culture.” One of her major initiatives for this year is to ensure that all student clubs receive the recognition they deserve. Sprouse believes that while some clubs at WHHS are highly recognized for their achievements, others often go unnoticed. She aims to change that by finding ways to provide equal representation for all clubs.
“Every club should feel seen and valued for their contributions,” she said. “It’s important to make sure that no group is overlooked.” For Sprouse, her role as SGA president goes beyond planning events and boosting participation, it’s a personal mission to drive change. “If you want to see something change, you can’t wait for someone else to do it for you,” she said. “You have to be the one to step up and make that change.” With Sprouse leading the way, this school year promises to be filled with opportunities for students to get involved, make their voices heard, and contribute to a vibrant school community.
Under the guidance of faculty advisor Mrs. Braznell, the SGA at WHHS is a vital part of student life, offering opportunities for leadership and involvement. Whether it’s organizing school-wide events or addressing issues that matter to students, SGA plays a crucial role in shaping the day-to-day experiences of West Henderson.
