On April 27th, Mills River Elementary hosted its annual STEAM Night where high schoolers introduce future scientists of Hendersonville to interesting experiments one can do with science and ingenuity. The aim of STEAM Night is to promote science and science education in Henderson County. The WHHS STEAM Club has been a participant in the Mills River Elementary STEAM Night for many years; one of the club’s goals is community outreach. One of the great things about STEAM is the unification between fields of study where one can seek answers while being creative and finding new or reinvented meaning to age-old questions. For example, several students from West, including Sydney Hart, Gavin Puleio, Nic Moore, Kady Barron, Sophia Vintimilla, Aidan Reynolds, David Montoya, Soren Onderdonk, and Merrick Campbell demonstrate to young curious minds dry ice demonstrations, building a snap circuit, coding and code busting, and air-powered vehicles. Mr. and Ms. Zalevskiy, both science teachers at West, do their part in encouraging students here at West to participate in events like the one held at Mills River Elementary.
