On Friday March 12, the Henderson County Board of Education announced that Henderson County Public Schools will be returning to full time in-person learning under Plan A.
This follows a statement made by North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper on March 10 declaring that all public schools will be reopened for in-person learning. Cooper’s legislation requires all elementary schools to operate under Plan A; full in-person learning. Middle and high schools can choose between Plan A or a Plan B hybrid schedule. All students will have the option to remain fully remote.
“The good news is I think we all want the same thing,” Cooper said. “To open our schools for in-person instruction for all students and to do it safely with important emergency protections. I believe, and our public health leaders agree, that we can do that safely with precautions like face masks and other safe guards found in the public schools tool kit.”
The transition to Plan A for middle and high school students will begin on Tuesday, March 23. Minimal social distancing and face masks are required for all students, staff or visitors on campus. Students will return to their regular bell schedules. HCPS plans to continue working with the Henderson County Department of Public Health and maintain communication between districts and families.
