This year at West Henderson High School, several new teachers have started their first year as a Falcon. One of the newest staff members, Munroe Lippard, is a new Math II and Math II Honors teacher.
Originally from Laurinburg, NC, Lippard had the opportunity to live all over the state, previously in Raleigh and now Hendersonville. A graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, she decided as a student there that she wanted to teach math and science. Lippard then moved to Raleigh, where she taught middle school math and science for seven years. Always wanting to be a teacher, Lippard adds,”When I was younger I used to play pretend school with my stuffed animals. I loved coming home and pretending to teach the lesson I had just been taught. A lot of my family were teachers, my mom, my grandma, and aunts, and I wanted to be just like them.” Lippard was inspired by her many family members who shared their love and passion for teaching.
Having taught middle school in the past, Lippard has noticed a couple of differences already from teaching at a middle school and high school. She says, “In middle school, students are still learning what kind of student they want to be, and in high school, you expand on that and are deciding what kind of person you want to be. I want to challenge my students and support them, and I’m excited to see what goes on from here.” She adds, “I love being a Falcon.”
