In the 2024-2025 school year, a new tradition unfolds, seniors can buy their supplies and paint their parking spots. This year, students were able to permanently paint their spot, but in the past students were not offered this opportunity; they were only able to use chalk. In total, there were thirty-eight spots painted here at West. Students would spend the week prior to the beginning of the school year painting and decorating their spots with their friends.
When asking senior Campbell Riddell what her favorite part of painting her spot was, she responded, “Being able to paint my spot with my mom”. Campbell’s spot was a can of “Campbell Soup” with ‘senior year’ and “25” over it. Campbell’s inspiration behind her spot was the hilarious relations between the brand and her name, as well as it being a nickname people call her. Riddell said, “By far, the most difficult part was the summer heat and the cracks in the sidewalk”. Despite the difficulties, Riddell still had a great time and lots of fun painting her spot.
Each senior spent hours with lots of hard work and dedication to painting their spots. Senior Sarah Walker was asked what made painting her spot special and said, “Painting with my friends was the best part, we painted spots together and it was really fun. We made a lot of memories and hope to make more this year.” For Walker’s spot, she painted the city of Gotham, with the bat symbol raining over the sky. These spots were decorated in a variety of ways, song lyrics, movie quotes and characters, puns, nature, or signatures from friends and family. Each spot is unique to the person and gave the West Henderson senior lot a big personality, showing off our talented students. West Henderson’s students hope to continue this tradition for many years to give every student the opportunity to show passion and skill.
