The morning of Aug. 16, marked the Senior Sunrise of the 2025 graduating class. Senior Sunrise is an event where the senior class gathers around on the turf of the football field to share memories, take pictures together, and of course eat. Normally, this event takes place at the end of the school year, but the Student Government Association (SGA) moved it up to the beginning of the school year instead.
Years in the past SGA has offered various types of food. The breakfast included, only costing students a dollar, proved to be an excellent motivator for student attendance. This year, they chose sausage biscuits from McDonald’s and coffee from Dunkin´Donuts. At the event, students are encouraged to wear jeans and many choose to doll up their jeans by stitching or painting designs on them. Popular designs are “senior”, “WHHS”, and “2025”, their graduating year. Girls, for the most part, tend to participate more in customizing their jeans. Although, one gentleman, Roscoe Green, did customize his overalls with the word senior written down a pant leg.
The SGA Social Media Manager, Haylee Bader, remarks, ”The event was incredibly successful. A lot of girls did their jeans along with one boy but all together a lot of people came out and everybody had a blast.” She gives us further insider on the reason SGA finds it important to put this on for the senior class each year,” It’s a tradition that we’ve had at West Henderson for years, and it’s something that seniors can look forward to at the beginning of the year so that they can have a special moment whenever they get back to school after their summers.”
Unfortunately, last year the senior class did their Senior “sunrise” in the rain so it didn’t turn out to be that much of a success. Fortunately, this year it was all sunny skies and 65 degrees out, with the only downside being having to wake up so early, but everyone seemed to agree it was worth it.
