Football season has just ended, and as a result of its delay, many fans are forgetting about baseball season. It crept up on us and now we are two weeks away from the first game of the season.

Last year’s season was abruptly cut short due to the worldwide shutdown for the COVID-19 pandemic. players, coaches, and especially seniors were confused and frustrated. 

Coming into this season, West is looking at a new team. The head coach, Jackie Corn, is new and many starters last year were seniors, so the underclassmen and current seniors must step up. West does have some key players returning though, including senior Nash Allen who recently committed to play baseball at Caldwell University. 

West has some returning varsity talent in the sophomores. Lukas Kachilo, Alex Anderson, Dev Hernandez, and Nicky Stanko all played varsity as freshmen last year.

“It was challenging but fun at the same time,” Anderson said. “Playing with dudes 4 years older than you is definitely intimidating but I knew them and the coaches were there for me.”

This season is looking to be a lot different than past ones, but the players are just happy to be back out on the field. The season kicks off with a home game against Erwin on April 27. 

“This is a very talented team,” Allen said. “If we go in with the right mentality we could go on to win the conference and further. It’s gonna take all of us.”
