Every Halloween there’s a costume that people can’t seem to get enough of. The last ten years have been full of popular costumes that it seemed like everyone was wearing, and in honor of spooky season, I ranked the most popular costumes each year from 2010-2019 from worst to best.
Hustlers
One of the most popular costumes of 2019 was one of the characters from the movie Hustlers. I’ve never seen the movie, it looked good, but it gets last place for lack of creativity. It’s a popular costume every year, but they just attached a movie name to it. 2/10.
The Nun
Dressing up as the Nun from the movie was common in 2018. I have nothing against this costume and I admire the effort, but if you’re going to dress up as something “scary”, why did you pick a nun from a mediocre movie? 3/10.
Anna from Frozen
Before Frozen even came out there were countless amounts of Annas and Elsas roaming the streets on Halloween night. The movie is good, but the sheer quantity of Annas in 2014 is what got it this low ranking. I don’t want to burst little girls’ bubbles but there’s no originality there. It’s basic. 3/10.
Harley Quinn
I love the Harley Quinn character, and Suicide Squad was a decent movie, but it’s the age of the people dressing up as Harley Quinn I have an issue with. It was 2015 and the movie hadn’t even come out yet, but you have no idea how many girls under the age of 10 I saw wearing this costume. The movie and the outfit are extremely inappropriate for someone that age. That and the specific Suicide Squad outfit was way overdone. 5/10.
Stranger Things
I’m not the biggest Stranger Things fan, but these popular costumes from 2016 are definitely cute! They’re definitely better as group costumes than individuals, but I don’t really have anything bad to say about them! 6/10.
Iron Man
The most popular costume of 2013 has been a fan favorite every year since 2008, but it’s my own experience with it that gets it a higher ranking. So many little kids of all genders look up to that character as a hero, and it was really fun to see how excited all of them were to be out in their Iron Man costume. 7/10.
Sue Sylvester
I don’t think this needs much explaining. The most popular costume of 2011 was of one of the only sane Glee characters. Enough said. 7/10.
Wonder Woman
Nothing like a good old girl power costume. I’m not the biggest Wonder Woman fan and the costume itself is a little basic but I love that so many girls find her inspiring and wanted to be her for Halloween in 2017. 8/10.
Katniss Everdeen
I love The Hunger Games and no matter how many times I see people dressed up as Katniss, it never gets old. She’s a cool character and all the people from 2012 had the right idea. 9/10
Tiana
The Princess and The Frog is one of my favorite Disney movies and Tiana is one of the best princesses. She’s a really good one to choose to dress up as. Especially in 2010 where little Black girls finally had a princess that looked like them. Incredible choice. 10/10.
