Quarantine: a time of rest and relaxation for some and personal growth for others. When suddenly faced with all this extra time on their hands, different people have responded in different ways. Some have spent their days lying around catching up on sleep or the latest Netflix show. However, junior Selah Chambers, spent countless hours creating a personal blog with the intent of inspiring her peers.
¨I came up with the idea on my own and told my family that I want to create my own Instagram page,¨ Chambers said. ¨I realized there was so much more I wanted to say in the captions of my initial posts, so the blog seemed like the perfect idea. I worked extremely hard to set it all up and here we are.¨
According to Chambers, her intent in creating the blog was to uplift her peers as well as strangers in their day-to-day lives.
¨I hope to accomplish so much with my blog. My little tagline is ´just trying to make your day a little bit brighter´ and this is because I wanted to help people who are going through tough times,¨ Chambers said. ¨We’re all teenagers and you really go through a lot at that age. It can be hard if you don’t have a good support system. So I really hope to be there for all of those people, no matter what they are going through.¨
The blog was released to the public on August 25 at 3 p.m. and since then, Chambers has been working tirelessly to continue releasing new content on her website.
¨It takes lots of time to do what I’m doing. There are so many things that go into being a social media influencer,¨ Chambers said. ¨I know that I’m not a social media influencer yet, but that’s my goal. You’ve got to dream big, work hard for it, and not be discouraged that you only have 92 followers.¨
In terms of support, Chambers feels as though family and friends have been there for her throughout the complex process, which has aided her in more ways than one.
¨I have received tons of support from my friends and family. I talked over everything and had a brainstorm session with my family. They told me they one hundred percent support me,¨ Chambers said. ¨And my friends are so good about sharing stuff on their own social medias and supporting me in that way.¨
According to Chambers, she plans to continue the blog throughout high school. Soon, the ambitious junior even hopes to launch products to the public, which would add an entirely new element to the website. She also feels as though the blog has impacted her in a multitude of ways, including helping her discover her purpose in life.
¨The creation of my blog has impacted me in all sorts of crazy ways. I would say the biggest thing is how much better of a person I feel,¨ Chambers said. ¨I know that I’m finally the person I am supposed to be. I’m doing what I’ve been called to do and am passionate about. Now I feel that I have a purpose.¨
