On Thursday Aug. 13, it was announced that West Henderson’s head baseball coach, Wesley King, would be leaving West and coaching at Christ School. King has coached at West since 2017, and will always be a part of the Falcon family. He is to be replaced by Jackie Corn, former physical education teacher at Apple Valley Middle School.
“It is truly an honor and privilege to be chosen as the head baseball coach at West Henderson High School,” Corn said in a press release. “West Henderson has a rich tradition in baseball, with great community support for their athletic programs. I am looking forward to helping carry on this winning tradition. I’d also like to thank the Apple Valley and North Henderson community for giving me the opportunity to be part of their coaching and teaching staff for the past nine years.”
Corn played baseball for North Henderson High School and Western Carolina University and has served as an assistant coach for North Henderson since 2011. In 2018, the North Carolina Baseball Coaches Association named him the Region 8 Assistant Coach of the Year.
“We are really excited about the opportunity to have Coach Corn join our staff,” West principal Luke Manuel said in a press release. “He is a quality individual with a great work ethic. Coach Corn will be an asset to West Henderson both inside the classroom and on the baseball field.”
