The West Henderson Falcons will host the Tuscola Mountaineers on Friday, Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in a game that could advance the Falcons’ winning streak and conference standing.
The Mountaineers, ranked fourth in the conference, are 3-5 on the season and 3-2 in the conference. In comparison the Falcons are tied for first in the conference with A.C Reynolds, and have an undefeated record up to this point in the season.
The Tuscola varsity football team lost last Friday, Oct. 18, in their home conference game against the North Buncombe Black Hawks by a score of 27-29. The game was neck and neck all the way to the end. Tuscola had the lead through the second and third quarters, but the Black Hawks had a strong performance in the fourth quarter to put them over the top.
The West Henderson High School varsity football team won last Friday, Oct. 18 in their away conference against North Henderson 37-14. The Falcons were led by strong performances from senior quarterback Auden Brennan, and senior running back Peyton Dimsdale. Brennan accounted for four of the Falcons’ five touchdowns on the night, and he amassed 136 yards over 10 carries. Dimsdale had 20 carries for 167 yards and one touchdown.
Tuscola’s three wins for the season have been against Enka, North Henderson and Asheville High School. In each of those games the Mountaineers posted double digit scores against their opponents. The Mountaineers have a better record, 2-2, when on the road than when they are at home, 1-3.
The Falcons are averaging 336.9 rushing yards per game, with 33 of their 40 touchdowns on the season coming from rushing plays. The offense is led by very strong seniors, Auden Brennan, Peyton Dimsdale, Austin Jenkins and Khaliq Barnes. Those seniors alone have accounted for 27 of the team’s 33 rushing touchdowns.
