The West Henderson Falcons beat the Erwin Warriors 2-1 at a home soccer match on Monday, Oct. 14.
“Overall we had more effort,” sophomore Jacob Hirshberg said. “We had more desire to win, we went after every ball, focused on good passing, and we made every pass count.”
At 6 p.m., the Falcons started the game with sophomore Woody Greene scoring a goal within the first five minutes of the first half.
Despite the Falcons’ head start, the score was tied when Erwin rallied to score a goal just over a minute later. After both teams fought for control of the field, the first half ended with a score of 1-1.
The struggle continued throughout the second half until senior Jackson Chandler scored the Falcons’ second goal with 15 minutes left in the match, giving the Falcons a 2-1 lead. The Falcons kept this lead throughout the remainder of the match, leaving the field victorious.
“We never quit. We hustled the whole night. It was an intense game from the start. Those guys are good. They’re good for a reason,” Head Coach Brian Brewer said. “Tonight I think our pressure was the difference. We outhustled them, we did great.”
This win came on the heels of Junior Varsity soccer also emerging victorious, starting the night with a 3-2 win over Erwin.
The next match is scheduled for Wednesday, October 16 at Enka High School.
