On Thursday, Sept. 26, the body of Christ at West Henderson united together to pray for the school and community through the international event “See You at the Pole.”
“See You at the Pole” started in 1990 as a grassroots movement with 10 students gathering together at school to pray. Today, it has grown into a global event that millions of students participate in. The goal of “See You at the Pole,” according to their website, is to lift up schools, families, friends, teachers and nations to God. It is typically student led, initiated and organized.
At West, more than 30 students from clubs such as FCA, STUG and Sheepdog joined together to participate in this event.
According to senior Caleb Youmans, this event initiates his school year and reminds him that he is not alone in his walk with God at this school.
“It helps me realize that there is more than one of us, but it also sets up the school year for me,” Youmans said. “Like I asked for God to have his hand on me and this school year, so it helps me realize that there is somebody advocating for me.”
Prayer started with Youmans but jumped around to whoever felt led to pray. Quoted scripture included Matthew 28:19 and Proverbs 3:5-6.
“I really like seeing all the people come together under one common value, and especially the teachers,” senior Madison Broome said. “You know that you have teachers that support your beliefs and friends that are there to be with you.”
