On Monday, Sept. 23, West Henderson’s men’s soccer team lost a conference match to Tuscola 1-2.
By the end of the first half the teams were tied 0-0. Within the first nine minutes of the second half, Tuscola had scored a goal. West continued to fight and sophomore Woody Greene scored a goal, tying the game 1-1.
“You can tell that we aren’t playing with our hearts, and that needs to change the second half of the season,” sophomore Woody Greene said.
Tuscola did not have a single shot on goal in the first half of play. West outshot them 11-0 in the first half. By the end of the game though, Tuscola slipped past West’s defense and scored with five minutes to go in the half to seal the win.
“When you show up to play a game and don’t bring it, you get what you bargained for,” coach Brian Brewer said. “Maybe now (our team) realizes that they can’t just step out and win every night. You have to take everybody seriously. They are going to have to find their way, and they need to realize that.”
West’s JV team beat Tuscola 3-2. The next home game is Monday, Sept. 30 against Asheville High.
