West Henderson’s volleyball team won their game against Polk County High School on Monday, Sept. 16, in four sets. West won the first set 25-22, lost the second set 25-21, won the third set 18-25 and won the fourth set 25-15. The first two sets went back and forth the whole time, but the Lady Falcons dominated the final two sets.
“Whenever we play Polk, they always have a lot of energy, and they’re really scrappy and excited,” Junior America Anderson said. “So we need to not let our record get ahead of what we’re doing during the game. As a team, I think that when we were down, we definitely came out with more energy to help us win.”
During the second set, Assistant Coach Allyson Warren announced that Junior Malia Moore had reached her 1,000th assist. By the end of the game, Moore had an additional 27 assists.
“I’m super proud of (Moore) for being a junior and already having this achievement,” Warren said. “It speaks volumes about her talent and tremendous work ethic.”
Moore also made 11 kills and three aces against Polk. Junior Daija Jackson made 9 kills and 4.5 blocks, and Senior Bailey Lance made 19 digs. The volleyball team has another home game on Tuesday, Sept. 17, against Asheville High School.
