Women’s basketball coach April Bryson stepped down from her position as coach this morning, and released this statement.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed the past year and a half coaching girls basketball at West Henderson. And although it was never my intention to step down this soon, I must focus on my family as we anticipate and go through my father-in-law’s trial which is set to take place during basketball season. Last year was a difficult year for my family and our emotions were still very raw. Our faith has tremendously helped us and we have felt the prayers, love and support of our community and beyond. In addition, our children spent a lot of time away from home with mine and my husbands coaching schedule. It is important to Joe and me that I am available and fully present to our kids during this time. It is most certainly bittersweet. I have really gotten close to the players so this decision was not taken lightly and has been an emotional one. Mrs. Auten, Mr. Smith and Mrs. Allison have been extremely supportive and want the best for my family so I really appreciate their understanding of my decision to step down.”
