Student Government Association will sponsor a semi-formal spring dance on March 18 from 8 to 11 p.m. in the West cafeteria.
This Spring Fling dance will help SGA raise funds for future events while providing a fun event for the student body. Admission for the Spring Fling will be $7. A concession stand will be available.
“Prom on April 29 is for juniors and seniors, so the Spring Fling is for everyone. I think the underclassmen really deserve an opportunity like the seniors do for them to have a spring formal as well,” student body president Samuel Littauer said, “I mean, this isn’t just for underclassmen, but I think it gives them an opportunity to have some fun in the spring as well.”
Last year the first Spring Fling was called the Sadie Hawkins Dance. Around 200 students attended, but Littauer expects to double that number this spring.
“Last Spring Fling I remember seeing a bunch of my friends come in,” Littauer said. “I was really nervous beforehand because I wasn’t sure how many people would show up. There are certain things you just can’t anticipate, but I remember last year a couple of my favorite moments were just seeing everybody come in excited to be there.”
The Spring Fling also helps to provide a fun event to look forward to in the spring. With football in the fall and basketball in the winter, spring just has fewer school events to attend. Littauer expects the Spring Fling to raise somewhere between $1,500 and $2,000.
“We don’t want anybody making bad decisions before or after the dance,” Littauer said. “I think my biggest concern for it is that we can control the crowd, make sure it’s a fun, safe environment and have a good time.”
