October has to be the best month for sports. I spend the majority of my weekends on a couch, flipping through channels full of exciting games. For those of you who don’t follow sports like a religion, but still need to know what happened, here’s a wrap up for you.
NFL
Brady returns. After a four game suspension for the infamous “Deflategate” scandal, Patriots QB Tom Brady took the snaps on Sunday as the Patriots took on the Browns in Cleveland. Brady was back to his old ways, throwing for 406 yards and three touchdowns in the Pats 33-13 win.
The Panthers woes continue. Yesterday, Carolina dropped to 1-4 after a game-winning field goal was kicked by Tampa Bay.
Rookies are the story in Dallas. Quarterback Dak Prescott and running back Ezekiel Elliott continue to lead the Cowboys as they led America’s team to a 28-14 victory over the Bengals.
NCAA
The biggest headline from Week 6 in the college football season was Navy’s upset against Houston. The unranked Midshipman took on number 5 Houston and held on for a 46-40 win, knocking Houston out of playoff contention.
College Gameday was in College Station Texas this weekend as number 8 Texas A&M and number 9 Tennessee played in a crucial SEC game. The Aggies came out on top after an interception sealed the 45-38 double overtime win.
The other Top-10 team to lose was number 10 Miami. The Hurricanes lost at home to number 23 Florida State, 20-19.
NC State played one of the more interesting games of the weekend, beating Notre Dame 10-3 in monsoon like conditions, from Hurricane Mathew. A blocked punt returned for 6 was the game’s only touchdown.
MLB
Playoff baseball continues. After a quick three game series, the Toronto Blue Jays knocked off the Texas Rangers. The Rangers possessed the league’s best record going into October.
Big Papi played his last game. With the Red Sox 4-3 loss to the Indians monday, long time Red sox first baseman David Ortiz’s career came to an end. Cleveland moved on to the Divisional series after the 3-0 sweep.
The Nationals and the Dodgers will play Oct 11, with the Nationals up 2 -1 in the best of five series. The Cubs and the Giants play tonight as well, with the Cubs leading 2-1. Chicago holds the MLB’s longest streak without a World Series win, having their last one in 1908.
Debate
Seemed like more of a sporting event than a debate, didn’t it?
Golf
Tiger Woods continues to sit out. After looking like he was to play in his first tournament since September 2015, the 14 major winner dropped out of the Safeway open in Turkey.
