West’s 2015 prom will be held on Saturday, May 9, at the Crest Center Pavilion in Asheville from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
The theme for Prom 2015 is “Tomorrow Never Dies.” The theme is based on a popular James Bond movie from the 1990s. Invitations will be sent the third week in March and guest applications are currently available.
This year’s theme was chosen by the prom committee that includes six juniors, Isabella Perron, Izzy Denman, Rachel Raasch, Madison Duran, Dante Padilla and Maddie Iurato.
“Mrs. (Teresa) Davis needed my help, and I knew that I could step up and take a role. I also want a good prom, and I know that the other committee members and I can make that happen,” Perron said.
Davis said proms have changed over the years she has been the faculty sponsor.
“Proms have changed in the sense that there is a lot more student involvement. They want to take on a theme that really means something to them,” Davis said. “So to me the proms get better every year and bigger every year.”
The other thing that is changing is what students spend on prom is increasing, but it doesn’t have to, according to Davis.
“Kids at West Henderson normally spend $200 to $600 on prom. That is a lot,” Davis said, “but there are places like the Beehive where you can a get a free dress or a next to new dress for $20 to $30. Students can also get discounted prices on dresses at thrift stores like Goodwill.”
Despite the price, Perron is looking forward to prom.
“It is going to be a lot of fun,” Perron said. “Everyone says they never forget their prom.”
