Beads of sweat dripped down senior C.J. Reguyal’s forehead as he prepared to serve to his opponent in a doubles tournament at the Hendersonville Country Club on March 22.
Reguyal and doubles partner, sophomore Nathan Greer, dominated the match with West finishing first overall in the tournament against East, North Henderson and Hendersonville.
With only one returning senior, team
members started the season feeling apprehensive about how they would play.
“On one hand, the season has been disappointing because our old starters were incredibly funny and great to be around,” Reguyal said. “But on the other hand, it has been a good opportunity for the people who didn’t start last year to have a chance to step up.”
The team finished the season on May 5 with a record of 10-7 overall, 9-3 in conference. The team took first place in the 3A conference.
“Last year’s team was made up of good seniors that left,” senior Matt Rice said. “They were saying that we weren’t supposed to be as good this year as we were last year, but I’m really proud of us. We only lost two conference matches.”
