Player of the week: Riley Hill

At the Henderson County track meet last Tuesday, the women’s team finished second, falling short to Hendersonville, and the men’s team finished third.

But one particular Falcon runner showed out. Riley Hill scorched the field and ended up as the 2018 Women’s County Champion. Performances like this are nothing out of the ordinary for Hill.

“I really did well,” Hill said. “I executed my plan well and my finish showed that.”

Hill has placed well in multiple meets, and even has a big win under her belt from her sophomore season. Hill is running all year long, participating in spring and winter track.Hill uses each workout to physically and mentally help her as she sets new goals for herself while the school year moves forward.

“My coach knows what workouts will help me stay sharp year round. It’s important to stay at top form,” Hill said. “This helps me stay hopeful and humble for the rest of the season. It shows that I am capable of following through on my strategies.”

Hill said she can see the potential in herself, but she knows it will take some work to achieve her goals.

“I plan on continuing to work hard in practices and really trying to as best as I can to carry out the race plans that my coach and I set up for myself for race days.” Hill said.

Hill shares a goal with the rest of the team, and that goal is to carry the season as far as they can through the regional and state qualifying events.

“We have the potential. We have a talented team,” Hill said. “I can’t wait to see where this season takes us. I only hope to build off this momentum.”

The team’s next meet is in Cartersville, Georgia on Saturday, Sept. 22.
