Miss Garret is making heads turn with her innovative fundraiser, Mr. WHHS.

On May 6, 2023, a new tradition begins this year with Ms. Garrett’s fundraiser that will help two Henderson County families in financial need. In her former high school, Ms. Garrett successfully hosted a similar pageant where contestants raised money through ticket sales. Likewise at West, she has carried over this tradition with the Mr. WHHS contest. With 25 contestants, this is one of the better starts to a new tradition, according to Ms. Garrett. When asked about her goals, she had this to say, “My goals are to get the word out about this amazing show, gain more community involvement, and to raise the most amount of money possible for these two incredible families. I also want our students to see what a unique and fun event this is and hope that it will only continue to grow in the future.” As the school sponsor for the WHHS DECA Club, Ms. Garrett says that “My DECA students have put 100% into making Mr. WHHS happen and hopefully be successful. The contestants have been amazing and are really taking a leap of faith by trusting that they will love it. Everyone involved has been so helpful and I will always remember that.” She hopes to bring in as much money as she can for the families affected by crisis in our community.
The Mr. WHHS pageant will showcase twenty-five young men ranging from Freshmen to Seniors, who will certainly bring smiles with their choreographed dances and individual talents, and they are required to dress up like a pop culture icon. With the school year ending soon, Ms. Garrett was asked why push the pageant to be in the 2023 year? She says, “I ask myself that all the time! Seriously though – I originally was not going to start it until next year. I showed it to Mr. Parent and he encouraged me to go ahead with it this year because we had such an amazing group of seniors that he felt would love it.”
