Here at West Henderson, students have a special way of showing teacher appreciation. Flowers for Teachers, started by Key Club, is a fun and colorful way that students use to show their appreciation to their teachers. It starts with key club members dropping off an envelope full of colorful paper flower pedals at each classroom, from there each student that wants can take a pedal or two and write a message to a teacher of their choice, once they finish they put them back in the envelope they received and the teacher can send them back. Advisor of key club Mrs. Hannah Edwards states ¨I don’t know exactly when Flowers For Teachers started but the key club has been doing it since before I took over advisor and before I even got to this school. “For West teachers and students this small but meaningful gesture is a tradition that can’t be forgotten. The impact that these paper flowers have is so great, Mrs. Edward explains ¨I think the teachers appreciate it, It’s so great for the kids to be able to express their thoughts to their teachers especially anonymously because so many of the kids don’t want to go up to their teacher and tell them how much they mean to them but they will write on a pedal and I think it’s such a great way of showing them appreciation, and I get emails from the teachers who do talk about how it makes their day and makes the stress they go through worth it all just to hear their responses from the students.” Flowers For Teacher Appreciation may seem just like something small but for students and teachers here at West the small things have the greatest impacts, and as long as students come and go through these halls our appreciation for the teachers that help us through these four years will always be shown.
