West’s JV football team will not play their scheduled game on Thursday, Oct. 17 stemming from a forfeit from county rival North Henderson. North currently has only eleven healthy players, with about half of the already small team injured or on injured reserve.
The North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) guidelines require the game to be officially recorded as a forfeit with a score of 1-0. Although the team is disappointed from missing out on playing a county rival, this shifts practice time to focus on upcoming games, according to Head Coach Jay Young.
“We really emphasize on improving and learning from each game, so being down a game means we’re down a chance to get better,” Young said. “On the other hand, we have more practice time to prepare for Tuscola.”
West’s JV football is now 6-1, and their next game will be Thursday, Oct. 24 against the Tuscola Mountaineers.
