West Henderson’s Lady Falcons volleyball team defeated Jesse Carson High Tuesday, Oct. 30. The ladies won the first set 25-10, second set 25-11, and third set 25-11.
Junior Addison Hichman said the team chemistry this year has led to their success.
“This is my favorite team that I’ve ever played on,” Hichman said. “Everybody loves each other and the atmosphere is great. Everyone is so happy for each other whenever they succeed and everyone goes hard all the time.”
This was the fourth round game in the state playoffs and, even though head coach Tiffany Lowrance was battling an illness, she felt good about her team’s performance.
“I felt really good,” Lowrance said. “They were prepared yesterday in practice and they came up strong today.”
Jesse Carson (third seed) is located in China Grove, North Carolina. They finished their season with a record of 26-4 after falling to West.
“The other team had a really strong defense,” Hichman said. “We were able to work around it and hit around their players, which was great.”
The state semifinal game for the western division will start at 6 p.m. this evening in Waxhaw, North Carolina with Marvin Ridge hosting the Lady Falcons. This will be West’s first away game of this year’s playoffs. Principal Shannon Auten will be driving a bus for any student who would like to travel to watch the game.
“We have to continue to focus on the game ahead,” Hichman said. “We can’t look past the next game.”
If West can defeat Marvin Ridge, they will be playing in the North Carolina State Championship game in Raleigh this Saturday.
“We have to stay mentally grounded and stay focused to come out strong,” Lowrance said. “Let’s do this.”
